"Tranquility”
Lord Ram is the epitome of “Maryadapurshottam”...(one who follows the path of righteousness in every situation). To prove that the king is always for the people, he abandons his wife Sita in the forest on just a passing remark by one his subjects, questioning her purity after having been abducted by the demon king Ravana of Lanka.
However Sita is an epitome of an “Adarsh
Nari”…( an ideal woman) Upholding the principles of high religious and moral
standards “kshatriya dharma”…(followed by persons born into a royal hierarchy)
Without protest she accepts her fate and
is given asylum at the hermitage of sage Valmiki, where she gives birth to twin
boys “Luv and Kush”.
Here I show her happy and content to be
in this tranquil forest away from palace politics, living a simple life,
discharging her duties at the ashram and happily looking after her royal
children single handedly.
During one of my many travels to Jim
Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand), I happened to visit the place where Sita
was given asylum after being abandoned by her husband Ram. According to local
legend Mata Sita supposedly lived in the middle of this wilderness along with
her 2 sons.
I have used the scenic river view from
the hotel room where I stayed during my visit and have tried to assimilate and
use the same imaginary composition in my painting.
